Knowing your audience

While it is great that posterous allows me to syndicate my vision
(aha!) to as many services as I want, is that vision appropriate for
each one? Take Hashtags for example. Hashtags let you make a reference
to something insn't a statement so much as it is a verbal pun or
witticism. Hashtags don't really belong on facebook where you can
sensor your audience. Grandma probably isn't on twitter, however she
might object to your use of an off-color hashtag to make a humerous
point.

Knowing your audience is the first thing you need to accomplish before
you start any blog, website, startup or business. If you don't know
your audience, you will just end up with your foot in your mouth.
